Summer Internship - Posted 04/10/2025 - Multiple Positions

Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District is currently looking for Student Interns to join our operation during the busy summer months. Duties will be to assist the Operator in Responsible Charge in the operations and maintenance of District assets, buildings, and grounds.
Preferred applicants are high school or college students with an interest in water and wastewater systems. Applicant must possess basic knowledge or ability to learn and practice water and wastewater utility procedures and maintenance; and possess willingness and physical ability to perform manual labor.

Job Duties and Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:
• General maintenance and operation of the facilities
• Assist with water/wastewater laboratory analysis
• Assist with water/wastewater plant operations
• Assist with various clerical work
• Additional duties as may be assigned

Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds from ground level to waist level and 25 pounds to above shoulder level throughout a scheduled work shift.
• Continuous standing and walking required throughout a scheduled work shift.
• Must be able to perform simple grasping and fine manipulation tasks with both hands.
• Must be able to stoop, kneel, reach, push, pull, and the ability to work on uneven surfaces.
• Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Must be able to verbally communicate by means of spoken words
• Position requires acceptable corrected vision and acceptable corrected hearing.

This is a safety sensitive position. Must pass physical exam, including drug and alcohol testing.

Salary: Up to $12.00/hour

Applicants must be at least seventeen (17) years of age.

Summer interns are not eligible for fringe benefits.
