Water Treatment Plant Operator   -   Posted 03/28/2024

The Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District is seeking a Water Treatment Plant Operator to operate a 12.5-MGD rapid rate multi-media gravity filtration plant. Experience in operation of surface water treatment plant including collecting water samples, safety standards, water quality testing, recording data and adjusting chemical feed equipment is desired. Must possess a North Carolina Grade C SURFACE certificate and lab certification in bacteria analysis of drinking water or ability to obtain within twelve (12) months of employment. Prefer actual water treatment operations, laboratory and maintenance experience at a Grade A Surface water treatment plant but not required. Required to work 12-hr. rotating shifts, including some weekends, holidays, and on-call obligations. Preference will be given to candidates with higher certification levels. Applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED. Must possess driver license valid in NC.

Salary Range:  $21.44 - $31.28 Hourly

Distribution and Collection System Foreman   -   Posted 03/28/2024

The Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District is seeking a Distribution and Collection System Foreman.  This position is responsible for the supervision of a crew engaged in construction and maintenance of water distribution and sewer collection mains; operation of heavy equipment to include rubber tire backhoe, mini excavator, and skid steer; traffic control per MUTCD; and trenching and shoring safety. Position may also include the operation of a vac truck, CCTV equipment, and sewer jetter. Prompt and courteous public contact is required notifying and in answering customer questions regarding interruption of water or sewer service. Tasks include connecting and disconnecting water service, investigating reported problems, and repairing water line leaks. An employee in this position is also responsible for maintaining safety on the job, inspecting their vehicle daily and maintaining tools and supplies on the vehicle. This position is subject to on-call and call-back work, hazards of vicious animals and working in various weather conditions.
Position requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or GED and three (3) years of experience in heavy equipment operation and maintenance. Possession of driver license valid in NC required, CDL is a plus. The successful applicant must be able to obtain North Carolina Grade B Distribution and Grade II Collection certifications within two (2) years of employment.
